Building a Culture of Peace

It would be great to see some photos, videos and write ups on your events. Something simple but that keeps the glow alive for us all.

Seems a daunting task to get promoters to share their reflections. We have the opportunity the technology. Where is the will to make this movement unite further?

2009 was a year to remember, What a great event.
It began a little on the rough side for me with little sleep the days before and some new "improved security rules". But in the end this was definitely the best year yet.
With an abundance of love, unity and untethered open sharing by all EarthDance came through with flying colors.
It seems that more and more people are returning each year with the need to share with more people the Joy of Peace and Love that they encountered in previous years.
I want to say Thank You to all the awesome people..... from the organizers to the volunteers and beyond to all the beautiful people that come together each year and make this happen. I Love You.
Please.... spread a majority of the love and sharing that you took home with you after the event with those in who are in need, there will always be more where that came from at next years event for us all to replenish that which we share now.... I will see you there.

hi people !

Well indeed its very nice to share reflections as basically that is all about ! isn't it? Sharing the reflections of the various actions is what makes us realize thinks and thoughts and is this that help us move forward ! So nice of you Sobey that you put up this discussion.

For us in Crete it was another adventurous year that things were happening really fast but at the end although with the most of the things half finished the festival run well and we had no serious problems whatsoever.
Definitely worthed the effort to put up the art exhibition and the kiosks used by locals to show some artworks they did... some paintings, even some musical instruments etc.
We also set up a painting workshop that didn't actually worked as hoped but rather as expected and that's why i believe we have to set it up every year to make the people get used to the idea of doing something in the festival rather than just observe.
We also had comments from people that they noticed the importance of using wooden poles (that we take from ready to fall greenhouses) for the structures of the stage and the kiosks. I didn't expect people to notice it and comment on it ! That was really great and made me appreciate that the effort wasn't wasted.
Another thing we tried in a kind of larger scale was to get involved with the local community and we tried to make them get involved in the festival and expose to the people the problems of the place and some other issues that are very important to be solved for Pachia Ammos (the place that hosted the 2009 event) as well as their artworks that were very fine works actually as we saw on the site.
There was even a talk from Tom which is the coordinator of the Archeological investigations going on the eastern sector of the island as well the responsible person that runs archeological facilities for the local authority. While that talk was on some peoples were shouting...muuuusiiiic .... ...we want muuusiiiiccc.. and fair enough but in my opinion this festival (as we perceive it) is a cultural festival in many extends and culture is many things but music alone. So even though people wanted music i think ill do this "mistake" again next year! ....I wouldn't mind to spend 20 minutes from my night to hear someone talk for something worth noting.

Another interesting think to note was the collaboration of many different people (around 70-90 including the artists and the teams of the village and people that were volunteered to do things for the festival) that despite all the difficulties we face they seem to be united and open minded when the different situations challenged us.
I was also surprised to see the passion that they put in their effort and the motivation they had to be involved with all sorts of different things from the setting up to the running of the festival for all the period that lasted.

Generally lots of questions were raised (but money), people were curious and you could see that they were aware of something happening and i really enjoyed to see that spark in their eyes. I believe that has passed to the members of the team as well and even though maybe unconsciously, was and it is something that made them having this passion for the festival and passion to make it more proactive in the future.

The Tea House, the exhibition area, the kiosks, the decorated bar, the children area, the camping place, the art workshop, the decorated stage, the artwork around the dance floor, the lights, the amazing people, everything worked very well together and although there are much to improve the time we had there was excellent and super creative.

pfff ! i just remember i have to run to a meeting ..

In general this year made me realize lot of different things and the most important that all this situation im trying to make happen for so long putting massive effort into, seems to be now able to be properly and creatively shared among friends, supporters and others and that charges my batteries to continue to live in this utopic dream of changing the world.

Hi Psychedelic Reflection... thank you for your return post. A few posters is better than none.
Obviously creating world PEACE is not going to be easy....LOL....but I'm glad to hear that you are going to go back to the mistake again... we all need your help. I hope that your event gets better all the time and I'm looking forward to sharing the prayer with you this year.
We in Laytonville would love to have you join us someday too if you get the chance.
Peace-n-Love, Kipper

Our Earthdancebarcelona event was lovely. About 40 people attended. Everyone brought good, healthy, home-cooked dishes and desserts.
We began the event sitting in a circle in the beautiful garden of the Integral Yoga Center -St. Pere de Ribes, while Semin chanted a peace prayer from the B'hai faith. It was then that all the stress of organizing the event disappeared into a warm-hearted feeling of "inner peace". We chatted, made friends, ate and danced. Dj T-Bird spun global fusion music and later Satguru Kaur gave us a quick Bhangra lesson. Following that, Jasbir shared a beautiful celestial communication (mudras expressing a mantra) she created to Mul Mantra and everyone joined in. After moving together, we joined in kirtan (singing of mantras.) Shawn lead us on vocals and harmonium, Charles alternated between playing guitar and tabla, Lluisa played tambura and percussion as well as her amazing singing. I helped out on percussion.
After kirtan finished we stood in a circle, hand in hand and Jordi read the Earthdance™ peace prayer in Spanish before listening to the recorded version. In that circle, I felt my heart chakra spinning with the love and connection of the entire event.
