Permalink Reply by Regan ED Cape Town on October 25, 2011 at 4:47am Hello Earthdance Family!
We had the best Earthdance yet!
In terms of creating a space for people to communicate and learn and activate Peace we are all very happy.
We had the best Prayers for Peace ever!!! Totally amazing! You will see video footage soon, if you didnt catch the webcast.
On the Trance floor we had the biggest gathering for the Prayer we have ever had, I reckon a good 3000-4000 people, it was MASSIVE!! Mega powerful by all accounts. What I am happy with is that so many people gathered for it. I think having good weather for the first time pretty much ever in the 11 years we have done Earthdance in Cape Town was a big help, but it seems very evident that the participants at the event are very aware of the Prayer and it's timing and significance so the message is loud and clear. The performance/Dj set leading up the Prayer was also super special. One of our DJs, DJ Cooks, played an amazing heartfelt trance set (as she always does) and had joining her Wendy Oldfield, a very famous singer and songwriter in South Africa. Together they came up with lyrics that Wendy sang beautifully over the top. Every word thought out, well placed and spreading the message. They had also given the lyrics to the VJs who placed them on the screen behind them on stage so all could see too. Really amazing to see the space and intention set this way. An utter success!
Then on our electronic (breaks/electro/dubstep) floor -The MusicBox floor- we tried something different, and it worked amazingly!!! As discussed with some of your before, in the past the "Prayer for Peace" has been so different to what is played on that dancefloor that it is not well received, and in the end the crowd are kind of alienated. So we tried doing something the glitch kids could connect too. And it worked.
First we asked a well known breaks/hiphop Act here Sibot (the guy is a genius) if he could write a piece of music the same length as the Prayer for Peace in it's current format, but just an instrumental piece, something that will hold the space, settle it gently and keep the attention of the people on that dancefloor. He did a sterling job producing the piece with the right intentions and feel. We then asked a long time friend and MC/vocalist Farrel Adams if he would speak/sing over the piece of music and convey the message of Peace and Unity in his own words. All I can say is magic!! Half way through the piece the crowd started singing Bob Marleys 'One Love'!!! Unprompted. We were all blown away. Everyone there totally tuned in, on the vibe, part of the message, part of the moment.
Goosebumps I tell ya!
I literally ran between the two floors to catch a bit of both...
just wanted to share that with you for now.
still lots more to say about the event overall.
big love from Earthdance Cape Town

Wow - this is incredible! We are so happy to learn about the great success of your Prayer for Peace gathering! Also, we love the idea of reinterpreting the 'Prayer for Peace' track for a different audience and this is something we definitely hope to invite more of in the future.
Thank you so much for sharing...we can't wait to hear and see more from Earthdance Cape Town - the largest regional Earthdance chapter in the world! Please keep us posted with pics, vids, etc. and be sure to fill out the 2011 Post-Event Form at your earliest convenience.
~Peace, love, and gratitude~
