GLOBAL FESTIVAL FOR PEACE EVENT RETURNS TO OHIO WESLEYAN SEPT. 19
EarthDance Delaware 2010 to Feature Family-Oriented Music, Dance
Delaware, Ohio – The largest global dance event in the world will return to Delaware for the second year on Sept. 19. The event, known as EarthDance, is held simultaneously in more than 200 locations in over 50 countries.
EarthDance promotes peace by supporting humanitarian causes through the global language of music and dance. Rising out of the global electronic music scene, Earthdance features a diverse cross-section of musical genres including world music, jazz, conscious hip-hop, folk, and reggae. Crafts and activities for children will include a puppet parade.
EarthDance Delaware 2010 will be held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 19 in the Benes Rooms of Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Admission is $5 at the door, and includes dinner.
Sponsors include OWU’s Office of the University Chaplain, B’nai B’rith Hillel, the OWU Tree House student residence, The Methodist Student Movement, and Citizens of the World.
This event was first held globally in 1997 as a vision to unite the world through the universal platform of dance and music. This year’s EarthDance Delaware 2010 celebration will be bigger and better, organizers say, including performances by DJ Darby Park, drummer Wahru Cleveland, members of Bellydance Columbus, Anne Tull with fire dancing, Israeli folk dancing, Luke the Juggler, Dances of Universal Peace, and the EarthDance Prayer for Peace.
In the spirit of this year’s theme, “Embracing All Traditions,” proceeds will benefit Global Village Collection, a fair trade, non-profit, volunteer-staffed retail store in downtown Delaware that features handcrafted items from around the world. The store promotes fair trade practices to improve the economic welfare of artisans and farmers from developing countries
by marketing their handicrafts.
