Earthdance Arcosanti - Heart of the Earth, Heart of the Sun

On September 26, Earthdance comes to Arcosanti

On September 26, 2009, Earthdance comes to Arcosanti.

Located in the high Arizona desert, Arcosanti will house Earthdance by bringing together local DJ's, grammy-nominated musicians, and world-class fire performers for a day-long festival under the internationally renowned architecture of Paolo Soleri, Italian architect and philosopher. With its solar-oriented, earthcast structures rising up from the Arizona bluffs, Arcosanti is a community and architectural work-in-progress in search of a sustainable and lean alternative to urban sprawl.

About Arcosanti
Arcosanti is an experimental architectural complex in the Arizona desert based on sustainable architectural design and ecology. Began in the 1970's by Italian architect Paolo Soleri, an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright, Arcosanti is an "Urban Laboratory" dedicated to providing a real-life, if microscopic, example of Paolo Soleri's theory of Arcology (the unification of architecture and ecology in one, harmonious urban form). His pivotal theory of arcology, decades before the green movement, drew international attention to his architectural designs, the structures being built at Arcosanti, and the plight of urban sprawl on the world. Ever since, Arcosanti has existed in a continual state of construction, supported by a small group of 50-70 residents & employees who seek to draw attention to the innate unsustainability of urban sprawl and its effects on human culture and the environment. The Arcosanti project has influenced numerous architects from around the world, creating a rich conversation about the direction of cities on this planet and their relation to humanity's impact on the environment.

We've opened general admission on our website!

You can now pay online ahead of time for the festival. You can also call the Arcosanti Gallery staff and pay for admission over the phone. We strongly encourage people who plan to attend to pay ahead of time, as only cash will be accepted at the gate the day of the event.

You will also be able to camp out at Arcosanti underneath the stars. But spaces are limited, so reserve as soon as you can!

We're very excited about the festival. More updates are forthcoming!

I'm pleased to say that we've finished the Earthdance Arcosanti website!

Check it out at http://www.arcosanti.org/earthdance/

We have a number of good things available there including festival guidelines, a list of all the performers, articles about Arcosanti itself, and—in the very near future—an online checkout system where you can pay for admissions online.

We will be continually filling in the content of the site as it becomes available. But it's very exciting, and you'll want to check back there for all updates and information regarding the Earthdance at Arcosanti.

A special thanks to the designers at Proteus Creative who worked double-time to make the site what it is. Check them out at http://www.proteuscreative.com

I've taken a couple of personal days off here, but I can update everyone with progress so far:

I'm happy to say we have four confirmed headliners for our event. Flam Chen, Ploy have already been confirmed—now you can expect to also see William Eaton and Metrognome. William Eaton is a two-time grammy nominee acoustic guitarist who has collaborated with Native American flutist Carlos Nakai, and he's noted for building his own unique instruments that are something of a cross between a harp and a guitar.

Metrognome will be collaborating with Flam Chen in particular to deliver a performance of fire, visuals, and digitally created on-the-fly electronic music. Metrognome is also a builder of instruments—except his are advanced touchscreen interfaces hooked into his Native Instruments Reaktor music hub. A unique act all on his own, I highly recommend anyone interested in these musicians to look them up (and information about they will be on our Mini-Site, which is currently in production and should be up in the next few weeks).

We'll be promoting the event this weekend with fliers in the Tuscon, Phoenix, Scottsdale, etc. area. If you're in that area, be sure to be on the lookout for the yellow and red colors of Earthdance Arcosanti!

There will be many different types of music, certain performers pending, from psy-trance and house to southwestern acoustic guitar. There is also planned to be an art installation by one of our local artists who has shown his work in Washington DC and Baltimore, utilizing recycled brochures and posters. And Flam Chen will be bringing their own flair—and likely fire!—to the event.

There is a lot going on behind the scenes right now, so I can't confirm beyond our two main acts (Flam Chen and Ploy) what music there will be. But we are coordinating with a number of other performers, and as soon as their presence is confirmed they will be added to the public list! Probably in two or three week's time I will be able to confirm much more than I can presently.

Update for everyone: there's lots more information coming, including the mini-site (I know that nothing is there at the moment, but that will change). Also things like the schedule for dinner, performances, and reservations for camping. Watch this homepage for critical updates. But things are coming together fairly quickly, and there's a lot to be excited about. So watch us for more information as it comes!

Thanks Abigail! Glad you like the logo design, it was fun to make! Not sure if I (Daniel) personally will be there, though that would be cool. In any case, I hope it turns out to be a great event.
