Coordinating the Earthdance International Event

For any of you out there who still might not be sure what Earthdance is all about, we are an annual music and dance PEACE event. People from around the world collectively affirm peace by creating and participating in events - understanding that music and dance are the universal language of peace. At the same exact moment we all do the PRAYER FOR PEACE. It is so powerful!! This year, Earthdance takes place on September 26, 2009 and the Prayer will occur at 4pm PST. Some people produce PUBLIC events and draw attendees through public promotion (posters, email blasts, radio announcements, hand bills) while others just invite their friends over for a PRIVATE event. We have no requirements on the size of the event or the type of music and dance - just that you register the event so we know about it. Public events need to follow our Guidelines. Every year, we pick a global focus for Earthdancers to be conscious of in the planning of their event. Public events donate 50% of their profits to charity , so we encourage them to choose charities that match the global Focus. This Year's Global Focus is: BLESS THE CHILDREN.

Since 2004, it has been a great honor for me to Coordinate Earthdance events around the world (with a big shout out to Jeni Larsen who was the International Coordinator for the past 2 years). It has been quite a journey - a lot of behind the scenes stuff like creating systems to track registrations and the events, emails back and forth, working on the website, creating email blasts, non-profit paperwork, and more emails back and forth. Did I mention that there's a lot of emailing involved?

We hope that this year, even more people will decide to put on Earthdance events. In the upcoming posts, I will highlight various events - big and small - so the Community will be able to get a sense of how amazing Earthdance is with its broad and unique constituency.
